I get 1 early encampment then spend a few turns with the bonuses on cranking out warriors/archers/horsemen maybe even with a few chops to get a lotta units really fast, and then spend the rest of the game upgrading them to solid units instead of training the later units. I won on deity with Germany at turn 297 because spies ruined AI space production for many, many turns.įinally, in the early game, I like to get +25% production ancient/classical military pantheon and the early military bonus cards. Do easy stuff first, like siphoning gold, really build your spy or spies up early so that by the space race, they are advanced and can succeed at 2 things mainly - steal tech or disrupt spaceport production. I would even go a step further and say go with a civ with major IZ bonuses like Germany or early IZs like Gaul. Put IZ's in most every or every city so you can rack up great engineer points - they are crucial to late game science because they can give something like 1500 hammers to space race projects, add a bonus card +100% and you can finish an entire 3,000 hammer project in 1 turn. If you want a strong Science game and love a more aggressive approach, try Sumeria or Germany. And get your Government Plaza early, your Government Titles boost Science and Culture output of the cities where Governors are established. Put them isolated and preferably surrounded by workable tiles, since Farms and Mines get extra yields when put next o a Seonwon. You always have option to skip one in order to not miss out on one like forementioned.įor Korea specifically, remember that Seonwons lose yields if other districts are next to it. Great Scientists like Hypatia, Carl Sagan and Isaac Newton, or Great Engineers like James Watt or Nikolai Tesla are extremely valuable. And if you don't plan on invasion, Ranged units are your best friends, since they can get high combat bonusses while fortified in districts or cities.ĭare to be picky when it comes to Great People. High level walls in your cities not only makes them tough to capture, if you manage to get them to Renaissance walls they will generate Science if you put in the Military Research policy. Of course, some are always good (Piramids, Colloseum, to name a few) The 3 most straightforward ones are probably Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, Oxford University and Rhur Valley. There ard few World Wonders that really matter in a Science game, so don't waste too much time on them. try to reoptimize Policies every time you research a new Civic for what you need the most at that specific time, as it allows you to do it for free then. If you have some good adjacency Campusses, get Natual Philosophy and Rationalism later on, Veterancy and Limes greatly speed up defensive infrastructure, Mercenaries allow you to affordably upgrade soldiers. Especially early Universities can give you a leg up. Good district adjacency is strong in the early game, but it's your specialist buildings that will give you the most yields, so don't wait too long to get them. Focus on these 2 first (Encampments/ Industrial Zones and Campusses), and then add whatever is needed most. ![]() Just wanted to add my two cents so you consider the risk vs reward of this strategy which will help as you improve :)Īs already mentioned, Science Victory requires 2 key things: production and Science output. Sumerian will have a hell of a better time doing this, especially early, than Korea.Īgain, you’re on Settler so feel free to disregard. Or if there’s two enemy Civs, I can try ally with one to form a coalition, otherwise it’s really hard on Deity. I tend to only do this if I’m alone on a continent with one other Civ. I know you’re playing on Settler so this may seem like it’s not applicable but it is a good habit to develop this thinking now. You can certainly get away with it, especially with the new overpowered Civs that have released recently, but it’s high risk high reward. I would add that this strategy depends a lot of difficulty and a little on what the landmass you’re on/Civ you’re playing is.Īs a rule, playing on Deity makes deviating from a complete focus on your win type (eg: building Holy Sites for Religion Victory) more punishing. I agree with this advice, for the most part.
